<span style="font-size:16px;">One of the best parts of freelancing (if not the best) is the freedom. You’re in control of how much and when you work. American society tells us that we need to work 40 hours per week, 9 to 5, to be successful. The longer you freelance, the less you may find this to be true. And yet so many freelancers don't take advantage of this.</span></p><p style="margin:0;font-size:16px;mso-line-height-alt:18px"> </p><p style="margin:0;font-size:16px;mso-line-height-alt:24px"><span style="font-size:16px;">We all know those fellow freelancers that it seems like every time they’re supposed to be taking time off, they’re still working. They’re powering through flus by working in bed, or staying up to date on emails while at a Mexican beach vacation.</span></p><p style="margin:0;font-size:16px;mso-line-height-alt:18px"> </p><p style="margin:0;font-size:16px;mso-line-height-alt:24px">
<span style="font-size:16px;">By contrast, Wudan shares that she takes off <span style="background-color:#ffdf8f;">five weeks in the summer, four weeks in winter, and around one day off per week</span>. She didn’t do this right out the gate; she started with a more typical twenty days off per year and built up to this holiday policy.</span></p><p style="margin:0;font-size:16px;mso-line-height-alt:18px"> </p><p style="margin:0;font-size:16px;mso-line-height-alt:24px">
<span style="font-size:16px;">Your PTO policy will be different from Wudan’s because your life and your income are different from hers. Especially as early freelancers, it can be hard to make the transition and draw those boundaries between work and time off.
